As a photographer, I’ve had the privilege of documenting many significant events, but there are some occasions that leave a lasting impression. One such event took place at the Hotel Etico, where I had the honour of photographing an inspiring award ceremony for 13 graduates of their disability program.

Hotel Etico, known for its dedication to providing employment opportunities and fostering independence for individuals with disabilities, hosted an afternoon event that celebrated the achievements of their remarkable graduates. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and pride, as friends and family gathered to honour the hard work and dedication of these incredible individuals.

The ceremony was a beautifully orchestrated affair, with each graduate being recognised for their accomplishments. The graduates, dressed in their best, beamed with pride as they received their certificates. It was a sight to behold—their faces glowing with achievement and the supportive applause from the audience adding to the emotional weight of the moment.

One of the most touching parts of the ceremony was a heartfelt speech delivered by one of the parents of the graduates. Their words captured the essence of the journey these young people had undertaken, the challenges they had overcome, and the joy they felt as their children stepped into this new chapter of their lives. The speech resonated deeply with everyone present, underscoring the profound impact that Hotel Etico's program has on its participants and their families.

As I moved through the crowd, camera in hand, I aimed to capture not just the formal moments of the ceremony but the genuine emotions that filled the room. The proud smiles, the tears of joy, and the shared moments of celebration all told a story beyond the official programme. My role was to freeze these fleeting moments in time, preserving them for the graduates and their families to cherish.

Photographing events like this is a reminder of why I love what I do. It's not just about capturing images; it's about telling stories and immortalising moments that matter.
